
Survival of the richest: The India story

Bengaluru: Survival of the richest; The India Story is a panel discussion to be held at the Bangalore International Centre on 22nd January 2023, Sunday from 6pm to 7.30pm.
Panelists Amitabh Behar, M V Rajeev Gowda, and Tara Krishnaswami will be raising healthy arguments on the regressive tax system and the concept of taxing the rich higher. As per Oxfam India’s recent data, it was found that five percent Indians hold over 60 percent of the country’s wealth while the rest painfully succumbs to poverty.
The report also pointed out that the wealthiest person from India saw their wealth soar by 46 percent, the previous year. The stock reports represent a one-off 20 percent tax on their unrealised gains from the year 2017- 2021, which had a possibility of raising Rs 1.8 lakh cr which is a sufficient amount to employ five million primary school teachers for a span of a year.
India is currently under a shade of many problems such as hunger, employment, inflation and health calamities while the rich get richer, making the best out of the crises. Amitabh Behar, CEO Oxfam is an ardent supporter of governance with accountability, equality, socio economic and citizen participation.
The second panellist MV Rajeev Gowda, politician and academician, he is an ex member of the Parliament, Rajya Sabha from Karnataka , he is also a PHD in Public Policy and management from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and has been associated with the Indian Institute of Management.
The third panellist Tara Krishnaswamy is the cofounder of the Citizens of Bengaluru; she has actively participated in major campaigns like the #SteelFlyoverBeda, #chukuBukuBeku and the #BekuBedaSanthe.
