Bengaluru: Parents of children enrolled in a private school staged a protest in front of the institution’s premises on Tuesday claiming that the school management had lied to them. The demonstration happened at Orchids International School campus in Nagarabhavi.

The parents alleged that the school management had lied to them with regard to the school’s Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) affiliation. The protesters claimed that the school made it seem like they were already affiliated with CBSE and that the parents paid exorbitant fees under this false impression.

School authorities on the other hand insisted that they had only claimed that they had applied for CBSE affiliation. Trouble arose when the school announced their schedule for fifth standard finals, which, along with the eight standard finals are supposed to be conducted by the board. The parents said that they were flabbergasted to see the school disclose that they are affiliated to the Karnataka state board.

The protesting parents claimed they had paid as high as Rs1.15 lakh to the school under the impression that they were doing so to a CBSE affiliated school. They also claimed that the school authorities had sent them notices during the Covid-induced lockdowns, demanding that they pay the fees at the earliest.

Orchids’ school administration defended itself, insisting that they had only claimed they had applied for CBSE affiliation. They added that the school had been using the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) approved textbooks and therefore shouldn’t have problems concerning syllabi for various classes.

Educational authorities on the other hand disclosed that they had received complaints about syllabi and would follow up on the grouse. It is being said that the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) of Bengaluru South Zone 1 Rajashekhar HG would pay the school a visit on Wednesday
