
City design policy: Delegation holds talks with minister

Bengaluru: With an objective to enable a holistic and sustainable development of cities, highlevel delegates of the Karnataka Design Policy and World Design Organisation (WDO) met Minister for ITBT Dr CN Ashwath Narayan on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Narayan said there have been several challenges to develop cities scientifically and hence there is a great demand for design across the world. “There has been a challenge to make cities like Bengaluru, which houses over 1 crore population, more liveable.”
The discussions were held keeping this point in mind. David Kusama, chairperson, WDO, opined that there is a need to work in collaboration and coordination with the BBMP Town Planning section, Bengaluru Development Authority, Department of Education, Department of Urban Development and other institutions to realise the goal of developing Bengaluru as an attractive destination. Kusuma added that according to studies by the WDO, there are opportunities to select Bengaluru under the Protopolis concept for holistic and sustainable development.
In the meeting with the minister, it was discussed to take it to the next level, he stated. To see progress in the Protopolis plan, it is necessary that the city have an independent infrastructure system. To deliberate on this point, the Governing Council of WTO will hold a meeting in the month of March, he stated.
