Ex-RAW chief to recount his journey as a spymaster

Bengaluru: ‘A Life in the Shadows’ an interactive event on a book featuring RAW Chief A S Dulat will be held at the Bangalore International Centre (BIC) on 6 February, here. The event will be held from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm.

Ex-RAW Chief A S Dulat will talk about his journey from being a young boy in Punjab during the partition in 1947 to his days leading to becoming a spymaster in Kashmir during Prime Minister A B Vajpayee’s rule.

The book recalls Dulat’s engagement with the media and the National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval with respect to his role in operation Black Thunder. He also expressed his opinion on the Kashmir issue. A question and answer session will be curated by Aakar Patel who is a known syndicated columnist.

He is also a writer and has written non-fiction novels such as Why I Write, a translation of Saadat Hasan Manto’s Urdu non-fiction, Tranquebar, 2014 and Our Hindu Rashtra: What IT Is. How We Got Here, followed by a majoritarianism study based in India and Pakistan in 2020. He is also the Chair of Amnesty International India.

Amarjit Singh Dulat has worked with the Indian Police Service (IPS) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) for three decades. He was also the Special Director of the Indian Intelligence Bureau and the chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) for two years.

He was appointed in the Prime Minister's office and served as an advisor on the Kashmir matter for four years. He has authored Kashmir: The Vajpayee Years (2014) alongside The Spy Chronicles: R&AW, ISI and the Illusion of Peace (2018).
