Parents shocked with school’s 10-year advance fee option

Bengaluru: Parents in the city have been in for a shock after a private school here gave parents the option of paying school fees for up to 10 years in one go. Even though the proposal is not mandatory, the school's decision to charge 10 years' fees in advance has angered a few of the parents as they say that the details provided are not very clear.

The private school explained that according to the Advance Fees Scheme 2023-24, the parents can choose to pay the applicable fees in advance for a minimum of three years. They could also choose to pay the fees of all the years, until Class 10, at once.

Under the advance fee scheme, parents will be exempted from having to pay the increase in fees every year. Fees will be calculated from the first academic year the parent chooses the facility from and will be multiplied with the number of years they are willing to pay for.

A handful of parents have pointed out that a clause in the scheme says, “The refund would be subject to the prevailing LC (Leaving Certificate) rules,” and does not further elaborate on what would happen if one chooses to pull their child out of the school.
