'Great wave of change' installed at VR Bengaluru

Bengaluru: An art installation inspired by the graphic work of ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ by Hokusai, to serve as a visual reminder of the impact of our daily actions, has been put up in VR Bengaluru.
The artwork titled ‘The Great wave of change’ shows a car being engulfed by a massive wave of plastic bottles, similar to Hokusai’s most famous work depicting three boats moving through a storm-tossed sea, with a large wave forming a spiral in the centre and Mount Fuji visible in the background.
The artwork aims to highlight that in the 2022 floods, many roads turned into drains and vehicles became useless, with lower-income areas suffering the most due to inadequate infrastructure. Litters like plastic bottles, a significant element of the artwork, found on roads can block stormwater outlets and act as partial contributors to floods.
The objective of the artwork is to create awareness about the issue and encourage people to hold each other accountable for their consumption. The art installation has been curated by members of Geechugalu, a collective forum of artists researching graphic atmospheres.
