Bengaluru: As the city police are gearing up to begin a drive to keep a tab on beggary, a joint operation launched by the Women and Child Department and the Central Crime Branch (CCB) helped rescue at least 53 persons found begging at traffic junctions here.
According to sources, as many as 140 teams were formed to crack down on the racket of human trafficking for beggary. The rescued people include three boys and girls, 22 women, 18 children and seven men.
Police suspect that women sedate and carry minor children in their arms to create sympathy while begging. The rescued persons have been handed over to a rescue and rehabilitation centre.
