Only hours after a gang-rape was brought to light in the city, the Karnataka State Commission for Women registered a suo motu complaint, demanding a detailed report from the Bengaluru police. “The incident should be thoroughly investigated and strict action should be taken against the accused.
We request you to send the commission a report on the action taken against the accused,” said the commission in a letter addressed to the Bengaluru South-East Deputy Commissioner of Police CK Baba. In the letter dated March 31, it also condemned the “inhumane act.” On Friday, the police revealed that a 19-yearold woman was allegedly gang-raped in a moving car after being kidnapped by four men on March 25.
The incident took place in the limits of the Koramangala Police Station. All the accused were arrested within eight hours by the police and have been booked under Sections 376D (gang-rape), 376 (punishment for rape), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) 363 (punishment for kidnapping) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and remanded in judicial custody
