
City top cop angry over rising complaints against policemen

Bengaluru: With assembly elections round the corner, the rising number of complaints and allegations against police officers has made the city police commissioner furious over the issue. According to sources, every day there are a set of complaints against the police officers being submitted at the Police Commissioner's office in Bengaluru. "The Commissioner has ordered an inquiry into all the complaints under senior rank officers," sources told News Trail on Sunday.
In the last month, more than 10 police officers attached to different police stations in the city were suspended for their involvement in various misconduct and corrupt activities. Marathahalli sub-inspector Rangesh, who is still absconding as per the police, and two constables were suspended recently for their alleged involvement in an extortion case.
Earlier, five personnel including a subinspector from Pulikeshinagar police station were also suspended for demanding money from an accused in a rice-pulling scam. Sources further said that former Prime Minister Deve Gowda had accused three policemen from Kaggalipura, Talaghattapura and Tavarekere police stations of favouring several politicians recently.
The JD (S) supremo had written a letter to the senior police officers accusing the three inspectors, the inquiry of which is still underway. There were also cases where two police officers were suspended for misbehaving with women at the police station in the past two months.
Recently, the News Trail reported about the theft and illegal selling of a luxury car belonging to a JD (S) leader in the city. Two persons had claimed that they were falsely accused in the case and were later harassed by an officer from High Grounds police station here. Police Commissioner CH Pratap Reddy has ordered an inquiry into all these cases and warned that he will suspend the officers if they are found involved in dereliction of duties.
