Bengaluru: Bengaluru on Tuesday experienced its highest maximum temperature of the year at 36.5 degrees Celsius. The temperature was reported to be 3 degrees Celsius higher than the usual temperature and marked the biggest increase in temperature in the state, according to the India Meteorological Department.

The Meteorological Department has predicted that the temperature will remain at around 35 degrees Celsius in the city and the heat will prevail until June. The temperature at HAL airport on Tuesday was registered at 35 degrees Celsius while it was 36.5 degrees Celsius at Kempegowda International Airport.

The lack of moisture in the air has been the main reason for the maximum temperature to rise in several districts of the state. North Karnataka is now experiencing a maximum temperature of around 38-39 degrees Celsius while South Karnataka districts are at 34-36 degrees Celsius as per media reports.

The highest maximum temperature recorded in the plains is around 40 degrees Celsius and around 30 degrees Celsius in hilly regions. If the temperature crosses the average, it is known as a heat wave. The Indian Meteorological Department will declare a 'heat wave' if the maximum temperature rises between 4.5 and 6 degrees Celsius.

Experts have advised people to take precautions to deal with the summer heat. Some of the health tips given by them are: apply sunscreen before stepping outside, wear comfortable and breathable clothes, drink plenty of fluids like water and natural fruit juices, and in case of vomiting or diarrhea, drink juice, water, or ORS.

Diabetics can consume buttermilk, water, and porridge, while children, pregnant women, and senior citizens should avoid going out unnecessarily. It's also essential to take precautions against mosquito bites and keep the house and surroundings clean, health experts said.
