‘Act tough against communal force

Bengaluru: Karnataka’s image of a peace-loving state has taken a beating because of the recent incidents of moral policing, vigilantism and violent incidents pertaining to so called ‘love jihad’, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) said here on Saturday.

Addressing the media, JIH’s national president Sadatullah Hussaini appealed to the state government to restore communal harmony and take action against troublemakers. “With democratic values getting weaker, the wrong policies of the ruling party are leading the country to major social and economic crisis,” he said.

He also urged the Union government to withdraw the Citizenship Amendment Act, National Register of Citizens and the agricultural laws, and avoid making laws that would deprive the citizens of their basic and constitutional right. “Instead of indulging in controversies, there are other issues that the officials have to be concerned about. There is unemployment, inflation, poverty and other things that have been a matter of concern for every common man. The government must play a positive and constructive role in overcoming such problems,” Hussaini said.

JIH State president Dr Saad Belgami said, “We did have communal tensions in this region in the past, but there was a fear of the law. The police during those times cracked down on such elements as well. But in the past few years, there is certain impunity these groups are enjoying since police are not actively stopping these groups.” JIH appealed to all the citizens to unite and save the country from the communal forces.
