Bengaluru: Indian Meteorological Department on Monday issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Kolar, Mandya and Chikkaballapur districts, and also predicted light to moderate rainfall in the capital city for the next four days. It also alerted the people of power cuts in some parts across the State over the rainfall. “Thunderstorms along with lightning and heavy winds with speeds between 30-40 km per hour may also occur,” it said.

The IMD also predicted rainfall for the next four days and issued a warning about traffic disruptions and untoward situations due to the rainfall, asking people to take necessary measures and precautions. Meanwhile, the special commissioner for city traffic last week alerted every police station in the city and appointed mobile police officers on the ground with the necessary equipment to resolve the damage that the rainfall may bring.

The move came after CM Siddaramaiah warned officials of strict action upon failing to ensure that no accidents happen due to the rainfall. In a video conference meeting with the district collectors in the State, the CM ordered precautionary steps to prevent any mishap due to the rains. Earlier, a pre-monsoon spell wreaked havoc in Bengaluru, where several trees got uprooted, and a 22-yearold was killed.
