Bengaluru: In a bizarre incident, a jilted lover allegedly vandalised the premises of a church in Banaswadi Police Station limits in the city on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Tom Mathew, 29, was detained by the police following a complaint. According to police, the incident took place around 4.30 am at the Kammanahalli church.
The accused allegedly broke pots, furniture and other things in the premises of the church. Alerted, Hoysala personnel nabbed him and took him into custody. Preliminary investigations have indicated that the accused is a jilted lover. Sources from the police told News Trail that the accused acted like a “madman” during the interrogation.
"When asked about him, the accused claimed that he is god himself and his father is also a god as well. When police asked him why he vandalised the church premises, the accused said it was because of him being god,” the sources said.
Police took information from Mathew's mother who had come to the spot after hearing about her son's vandalising act in the church. It was revealed that Mathew is from Kerala and is settled in Bengaluru. Despite being an MBA graduate, he remained unemployed but had toured several foreign countries.
However, he had been acting strangely after he was rejected recently by a girl he loved, Mathew's mother told the police. She also added that Mathew had questioned her for visiting the church and told her that when she had god at home there was no need for her to visit the church. The police are currently checking the mental status of the accused. Further investigation is underway
