CM busts myth, enters Soudha chamber through ‘cursed’ south door

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, a known rationalist , has spurned superstition on various occasions. On Saturday, he did it again by busting a myth of using a door in the Vidhana Soudha that is “cursed”.

The door has been kept locked since 1998 as it is considered inauspicious by Vaasthu Shastra experts. The CM, who noticed the closed door on Saturday when he came to attend a meeting with officials to discuss the Anna Bhagya free rice distribution issue on the third floor of the government administration building, asked the officials why the door was closed again, and asked them to open it. He told them that he would enter his chamber through south door instead of the west.

Officials impressed upon him that the door was kept closed as it was considered inauspicious by ‘vaastu’ experts. However, the officials did open the door after entering the building from the west-facing door.

This is not the first time Siddaramaiah entered his chamber through the south door. From 2013 to 2018, Siddaramaiah entered his office through the “cursed” door on the third floor of the building in Vidhana Soudha by ignoring the myth associated with doors after 14 years of it staying locked. It is the door on the west side that is always used by officials and the public.

The south-facing door was kept locked since 1998 as most of the chief ministers except Siddaramaiah prefer to enter the chamber through the west door instead of the south door. Even Siddaramaiah himself said that he travelled more than two lakh kilometres in his official car on which sits a crow sits, by ignoring the myth that crows are considered to bring bad luck, which he says is just a superstitious belief.

It is also learnt that Siddaramaiah even presented his last state budget during 'Raahu Kalam', which is considered an inauspicious time in the Hindu calendar. Also, Siddaramaiah visited Chamarajanagar seventeen times, which is considered a “jinxed” town that “bring bad luck to chief ministers, making them lose power”.
