BBMP has no time to clear fallen trees at Cubbon Park

Bengaluru: Walkers in Cubbon Park have expressed their discontent as fallen trees, caused by heavy rainfall months ago, still remain uncleared.

The Horticulture Department officials claim that they were awaiting approval from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Around 59 trees and branches had collapsed during heavy rains over two months ago, obstructing the walking pathways within the park and inconveniencing walkers and joggers.

Cubbon Park, known as the city's largest green lung, attracts numerous citizens seeking a breath of fresh air. Accusations of negligence have been directed towards the Horticulture Department, responsible for maintaining the park, as they appear to be lacking accountability in addressing the fallen trees.

Despite enforcing several rules and regulations for park users, the department has seemingly failed to promptly attend to this issue. Umesh Kumar, President of the Cubbon Park Walkers Association, voiced his dissatisfaction, highlighting the persistent presence of fallen trees that have yet to be cleared, according to a media report.

Despite a lapse of two and a half months since the trees fell, the situation remains unaddressed. Initially, the delay was attributed to election duties, but even after the elections concluded, the trees remain untouched.

This lack of action from the Horticulture Department continues to cause great inconvenience to park visitors, leaving them perplexed as to why prompt measures are not taken.
