
BBMP aims to improve stray dog management with survey

Bengaluru: The Animal Husbandry Department of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) will be conducting a survey of stray dogs in the city from July 11, 2023.
The survey will be conducted on stray dogs, in the areas that have been covered by the ATMP (Animal Birth Control and Anti-Rabies Vaccination) programme since 2019.
The main objective of the survey is to determine the total number of stray dogs in Chivinayas, identify the number of stray dogs that have been sterilised under the ATMP programme, calculate the human-animal ratio, and collect data on the distribution of stray dogs.
The survey will be conducted by a team of experts from ICAR-NIVEDI and the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department, Bengaluru City District.
The survey will be conducted for a period of 14 days and will only be accessible to officers and staff, and not to the public.
The results of the survey will be used to improve the ATMP program and to develop more effective strategies for managing stray dogs in the city. The survey will cover an area of 840 sq. km. and will be conducted in 360 microzones.
A total of 100 people will be involved in the survey, including 70 technical staff from the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Department and 30 staff from the Palakaya Animal Husbandry Department of Bangalore City District.
The survey will provide information about the number and distribution of stray dogs.
This information will be used to improve the ATMP program and to develop more effective strategies for managing stray dogs in the city
