Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has proposed a new Metro route from Hebbal and Sarjapur, which would connect two of the city’s most populous and congested areas.
The 37-kilometre Metro corridor would cost an estimated Rs 15,000 crore and is currently in the initial stages of planning.
The proposed route would pass through Agara, Koramangala, and Dairy Circle, and would include a total of 24 stations. The new Metro line would significantly reduce travel time between Hebbal and Sar japur, which is currently around 45 minutes by road.
It is also expected to help reduce traffic congestion in these areas. The Karnataka government has also announced plans to expand the Metro network by 100 kilometres in the coming fiscal year.
This would include the completion of the Baiyyappanahalli to Krishnarajapura line, the Kengeri to Challaghatta line, and the Nagasandra to Madawara line. In addition, the government is planning to expedite the construction of the airport Metro line, which is expected to be operational by 2026.
A Detailed Project Report has also been submitted to the Central government for approval of Metro Phase-III, which would add another 45 kilometres of track to the network.
The Karnataka government’s commitment to expanding the Metro network is a welcome development for the city of Bengaluru. The Metro is a vital public transportation system that has helped to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality.
The proposed new Metro route from Hebbal to Sarjapur would be a major addition to the network and would provide much-needed relief to commuters in these areas.
