
Spike in dengue cases worries Mysureans

Mysuru: A sudden increase in dengue cases has worried Mysureans, as the total number of cases has now reached 291.
At present, Mysuru stands next after Bengaluru in most dengue cases in the State. According to statistics procured from the Health department, Mysuru district recorded 68 cases in June and 49 cases so far in the current month of July.
Since January 1, the district has recorded a total of 291 cases. Luckily, there have been no deaths due to the disease.
The Health de par tment has tested 3,070 blood samples so far. In 2017, the district had witnessed 843 dengue cases, which declined to 600 in 2018. While 182 dengue cases were recorded in 2021, the number rose to 789 in 2022.
The maximum number of cases had been reported during August, September and October. Now, 117 cases were reported in 45 days during June-July months, which has become a matter of concern for the Health department.
There was a slight increase in dengue cases in January this year following rains in December of the previous year, and as many as 30 cases were reported. In the subsequent months, an average of 25 cases were reported.
Then, rains in June and July escalated dengue cases due to the laying of eggs on stagnant water around households. Since the rainy season continues, dengue is likely to haunt people of Mysuru for another two to three months.
This time, the maximum cases have been reported from Hunsur taluk and Mysuru city. Of the total 3,070 blood samples tested so far, 89 dengue cases were confirmed in Hunsur taluk.
Cases were pouring in from across the city but more from Ramakrishna Nagar, Saraswathipuram, Janata Nagar, Hebbal and Kuvempunagar, and the residents of those areas must be a little more careful.
Till July 15, 30 dengue cases were reported in Mysuru taluk, 9 in T Narasipur, 14 in Nanjangud, 20 in HD Kote taluk, 12 in Periyapatna taluk and 28 in KR Nagar taluk. Mysuru district holds the second place in the entire State, after Bengaluru
