CCTV to keep watch on Bengaluru Mysuru expressway

Hameed Ashraf | NT: Ramanagara police officials, who are already conducting a drive to crackdown on speeding vehicles, have decided to install CCTV cameras on Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway in a few days.

According to sources from the Ramanagara police, the objective of installing the cameras on the expressway is to curb the rising incidents of robberies on the road along with checking traffic violations.

Despite an increased highway patrolling, motorists and commuters on the Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway continue to be waylaid and robbed by armed gangs who mostly operate during the nights.

Police said they have already identified several high risk places where the incidents have taken place recently.

A request has been made to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the distribution of at least 24 CCTV cameras with the automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) facility, the cops said.

"The cameras will help the police in identifying criminals involved in robberies on the expressway. Most of the cases reported have taken place in Maddur and Ramanagara police station limits," said an official from Ramanagara Police Station.

As per the cops, several cameras will be installed on the route between Kumbalgodu and Nidaghatta. Other places where the cameras are about to be installed include Bidadi, Ramanagara and Channapatna.
