Tomato more affordable due to increased supplies: Hopcoms markets sell at Rs 99 per kg

Bengaluru: Over the past two days, there has been a decline in tomato prices due to an increase in supplies. At Hopcoms markets in the city, tomatoes are currently being sold at Rs 99 per kg.

However, retail sellers and private vendors are still selling tomatoes at higher prices ranging from Rs 120 to Rs 140 per kg.

Umesh Mirji, the managing director of Hopcoms, mentioned that tomatoes have been sold for less than Rs 100 per kg during the last two days, attributing this price drop to the arrival of over 70,000 crates of tomatoes in the markets.

Similarly, the prices of 15 kg tomato crates at APMC markets have also witnessed a decline in the past two days, with the price range now between Rs 1,700 to Rs 1,900, as reported by Vijaya Lakshmi N, the Secretary at Kolar APMC.

To safeguard their tomato crops, farmers are taking precautions against theft. For instance, a farming family from Kukkep village in Hunsur taluk has installed CCTV cameras on their 3-acre tomato farm. This security measure allows them to monitor their farm remotely as they have connected the cameras to their mobile phones.
