Bengaluru: The five suspects who were arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) for allegedly involving in terror-related activities, were presented before a court in the city as their period in police custody ended on Wednesday.
The court extended the custody for 10 more days. The CCB officials who had arrested the five suspects identified as Sohail, Mudassir, Umar, Zahed and Faisal, had sought 15 days' custody, but the court had granted custody for seven days.
Through an intense interrogation with the accused, the police claim to have unearthed classified information regarding a possible terror plot.
The police have also managed to trace the location of another suspect, Junaid, who is alleged to have sent a package containing grenades to one of the arrested suspects, Sohail. It was revealed that Junaid had absconded to Dubai several years ago and from there he went to Azerbaijan.
However the CCB officials so far have no evidence that the suspects, except Sohail, were in contact with Junaid.
The CCB has requested the court to extend their custody so that they get more time to analyse if the suspects had received any directions from Junaid. The CCB is also preparing to interrogate the alleged master-mind, Thadiyantevide Nasir, who is currently lodged in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison here. He is one of the accused in the Bengaluru serial blast case of 2008.
It is alleged that Nasir had radicalised the five youths during their time in the prison. Meanwhile the CCB said that they have received information of Umar and Mudassir being involved in supplying drugs in the city.
However the officials said that they need more time to probe the matter.
