
Man who supplied arms to terror suspects has fled country: CCB

Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch police investigating the recently busted terror module has said that the person who was supplying arms to the five suspects in the city has fled to Dubai.
The five suspects, identified as Sohail, Umar, Zahed, Mudassir and Faisal, were arrested by the CCB from a house in Sultanpalya here on July 19. A huge consignment of firearms and ammunition along with several wireless trigger remotes and 12 mobile phones were seized from the place.
Later the police raided one of the accused person's houses and recovered four grenades that he had allegedly received from someone. The five suspects have been booked under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Further, the CCB launched a probe to identify the person who had supplied arms and explosives to the suspects. Officials zeroed in on an accused named Salman, who allegedly has connections with Junaid, who is also an accused in the 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts.
Junaid is said to have fled to Azerbaijan. According to police sources, the arms and explosives were smuggled in a train that reached Yesvantpur Railway Station.
Salman allegedly picked up the consignment and delivered it to an address in Begur. Following this activity, he fled the country from the Nepal border.
The CCB is currently monitoring his movements. 40 bank accounts scrutinised The CCB is conducting a further probe to find out if the suspects had received money from abroad.
More than 40 bank accounts belonging to the suspects and their families are being checked to gatather information of money transfers of the accounts.
Ganging up in prison
Meanwhile, the main accused in the 2008 Bengaluru serial blast case, Thadiyantevide Nasir, who is currently lodged in Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in the city, was taken into custody for questioning over the terror module. It is alleged that Nasir had radicalised the five suspects during their time in the prison.
