Youth should wake up for survival of country: Lakshmi

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Minister for Women and Child Welfare Lakshmi Hebbalkar has said that youth should wake up for the survival of the country, adding they are the country’s asset. She was speaking at the Indian Youth Congress natonal convention here.

“Youth units play an important role in shaping future leaders. I also started politics at the panchayat level and today, I am a a minister in Karnataka. Despite losing the election twice, I organized the Congress party at the booth level”, she said.

Taking a jibe at the Union Government for allegedly using the ED and IT department to hound rivals, the minister said, “Our leader and current Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar was jailed on baseless charges but he went ahead undaunted despite this.”

“Realizing that the youth community is the future, Indira Gandhi started the Youth Congress to build future leaders, she recalled.
