Dalit teacher stopped from entering anganwadi
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In a discrimination move, Melekote villagers in Doddaballapur taluk In Bengaluru Rural allegedly stopped a Dalit teacher from entering an anganwadi and performing duty for the last ten months.
An Anandamma, the teacher belongs to the Madiga community (SC) and works as a help at the anganwadi in Rajaghatta.
However, she was promoted as a teacher and transferred to Melekote in September 2022. According to the Women and Child Welfare Department, the villagers were opposing the teacher as she was staying three km away from the Melekote village and demanded staff from their village.
To a query that the teacher was forced to undergo mental agony, the sources from the department said they are working on the solutions.
“The teacher mentally suffered over not being allowed to perform her rights and we are working with the concerned department to bring peace between the staff and the villagers”, sources said.
The sources also said the matter shall be discussed at the gram sabha meeting on Monday. The teacher was not available for comment.
