Bird walk event at Dorekere Lake highlights rich avian diversity of B'luru
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Over 40 participants attended a bird walk event organised at Dorekere Lake on July 30, 2023, by ActionAid Association.
The event which was attended by 15 children and 25 adults was aimed at bringing together community members of all ages to learn about the diverse bird species and their natural habitats in the lake.
The walk was led by JN Prasad, an avid bird watcher with vast experience who began the session by emphasising the importance of using all five senses to observe and understand the birds and their surroundings.
He explained how keen observation of a bird's nature, colour, habitat, and activity can provide valuable insights into its behaviour and characteristics. Prasad also shared information about a variety of bird species found in the Bengaluru location.
He stated that there are approximately 350 different species, which left the children in awe of the rich avian diversity present in their own city. The group had the opportunity to witness birds up close by using binoculars and a spotting scope.
These tools enabled them to focus and view birds with greater clarity, making the event all the more memorable. Gamya, a 9-year-old who attended the bird walk said, “It was really nice, it was good than watching Tv, at first I liked watching grasshopper sitting on the shirt, we learnt about the colour of birds, it was nice.”
A parent who accompanied his child said, “The session was unique and a good initiative, I will definitely recommend it to others and my layout people also.”
