Ex-servicemen, soldiers take out bike rally to mark Kargil Vijay Diwas

Bengaluru: As many as 300 Exservicemen, soldiers, and patriots took part in the bike rally event at Manekshaw Parade Ground, paying tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil war.
The event, held in the name of 'Ride with soldiers', started from the Manekshaw ground and ended at BGS Stadium, covering almost 10 km. She For Society jointly organised the event, which included women participants and the officers.
The rally, which was in commemoration of the brave souls who fought the Kargil War in 1999 against the Pakistan Army, also paid tribute to the survivors.
Tornados, BSF Soldiers, 300 Ex-soldiers, and 300 Veernaaris, led by the GOC and the Governor of Karnataka and MLA Priyakrishna, participants embarked on a historic journey to ignite patriotism and celebrate the spirit of unity.
Veer Nari is a widow of armed forces personnel, who sacrificed their lives for the country in a war or during a military operation. They fluttered a 1,000 feet tall Indian flag representing the indomitable spirit of the nation.
However, the bravery and resilience of 300 Veernaaris from Karnataka were honoured. Thawar Chand Gehlot, the Governor of Karnataka, awarded the top five clubs with the recognition.
The war, which began in May 1999, lasted for three months between India and Pakistan, where as many as 1,500 Pakistani soldiers allegedly intruded into Indian territory in Kargil of Indiaoccupied Jammu and Kashmir to sever the link between Kashmir and Ladakh.
As many as 674 soldiers from India sacrificed their souls in which by July 20, 1999, they recaptured the Kargil Heights.
