Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) has recommended the education department to shut down the school in Varthur after the principal was arrested for allegedly raping a minor.
A meeting was held on Monday between the education department and the parents of students studying in the school.
Lambert Pushparaj, 65, administrative director and principal of a school in Kachamaranahalli was arrested by the police after he allegedly raped a 10-year-old dyslexic girl studying in class two.
Following the incident, the members of the commission led by the Chairman K Naganna Gowda met the victim's family.
"We have recommended to the education department to shut down the school where the act took place. A spontaneous complaint has been registered in this regard and investigation is being carried out," Naganna said.
However, he also said that the sudden closure of the school might pose problems for the rest of the students.
Therefore, a meeting was called between the parents and the officials from the education department.
"A total of 140 children from 1st to 10th standard are currently studying in this school. Arrangements will be made to enrol the children in other schools. Action is being taken to close this school immediately," Naganna added.
