Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has been making efforts to provide seamless transportation to the public in the state by extending Namma Metro rail connectivity to four peripheral towns of the capital city – Nelamangala, Doddaballapur, Hosakote and Devanahalli.
The decision was taken to improve mobility and decongest traffic. Recently, a meeting was also held which was attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and Congress MLAs from Bengaluru Rural regarding the expansion of the metro to other towns.
The MLAs suggested that extending the Metro will help in reducing traffic congestion on Bengaluru roads as thousands of people commute daily from these towns for work, education and other reasons.
They also suggested that expanding the metro connectivity will attract investment in peripheral regions and will increase economic development in the city.
If the government considers the expansion of the Namma Metro service in these towns then it will help the public.
However, Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar have reportedly told them that the Metro project under phases 2A and 2B will connect Bengaluru’s suburbs, including Kempegowda International Airport.
The Bengaluru Metro network has been spread across 69.66 kilometres.
A 39.34 km East-West corridor connects Krishnarajapuram to Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro Station, while a 25.63 km metro corridor connects East Baiyappanahalli to West Kengeri Terminal.
