HOMESCHOOLING: Growing trend in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The home-schooling trend is on the rise in Bengaluru, and there are many reasons why parents are choosing this educational path for their children.

Some parents are concerned about the quality of public education in the city, while others believe that they can provide their children with a better education at home.

Still, others want to have more control over their children's education. Some even allege that homeschooling is on the rise because of the increase in expenses that come with private schooling in the city.

Whatever the reason, homeschooling is becoming increasingly popular in Bengaluru. There are now a number of homeschooling resources available to parents in the area, including support groups, curriculum providers, online learning platforms and so on.

Adarsh Benkappa Basavaraj, a life and education coach opines that when education comes home, parents have the freedom to tailor the curriculum to their child's individual needs and interests.

They can also spend more time with their children and help them learn at their own pace. Several experts state that homeschooling could be one of the best options if the child is with special needs.

A child with special needs requires careful attention, and they might feel more comfortable learning in a familiar environment like homeschooling. Homeschooling offers the flexibility of hiring dedicated psychologists or following their guidance for a tailormade approach to education, ensuring that your child's needs are met.

There are also other benefits that come with homeschooling such as providing individual attention, a personalised syllabus, and so on.

But, Adarsh points out the several challenges that come with homeschooling. One of the biggest challenges that homeschooling poses, especially for children from age 5 to 14 is socialising.

Homeschooling can be isolating for children. Homeschooled children may not have as many opportunities to socialise with other children as children who attend traditional schools.

Another challenge is that it can be a lot of work for parents. Homeschooling parents need to be prepared to put in a lot of time and effort to create a successful homeschool program.
