Bengaluru: A traffic policewoman has lodged a complaint with the Govindarajanagar police alleging the loss of her body-worn camera at the Vijayanagar Metro station in the city.

Chandana SL, associated with the Cubbon Park Traffic Police Station, detailed in her report that her camera with ID number 14989 went missing from her backpack on August 8 at the Vijayanagara Metro Station.

According to her account, shortly after completing her duty, around 2 pm, she boarded the metro at Cubbon Park station en route to Vijayanagar station.

There, she used the washroom and left her backpack, which contained the body-worn camera stowed in a pouch, along with a reflector jacket, at the washroom entrance.

Upon returning, she discovered that the camera was absent from her backpack. Reportedly, she promptly sought assistance from the metro security staff, asking them for information.

She also requested access to the CCTV footage of the area. However, lacking the necessary authorization, the staff advised her to file a theft complaint with the police.

She also visited the Vijayanagara police station, urging them to inform her if any leads regarding her lost camera surfaced. Subsequently, with no developments until August 14, Chandana formally lodged a complaint with the Govindarajanagar police.

Regrettably, the police informed her that the camera cannot be traced. It came to light that each body-worn camera provided to police officers carries a value of Rs 50,000.

Furthermore, previous regulations stipulated that any officer causing damage or loss to the device would be held accountable for the cost to the department.

Meanwhile, the police are actively engaged in the search for the misplaced camera.
