
Bescom to act against optic fibre cables on its poles

Bengaluru: The city faces an impending inter net disruption due to the Bescom taking action against unlawfully placing of optical fibre, data and dish cables on electric poles, as per media reports.
This decision follows two accidents involving pedestrians and falling electric poles caused by these cables. Bescom has issued a directive to the relevant operators, instructing them to remove the illicitly installed cables within a week.
Failure to comply will result in the registration of cases and subsequent actions against the operators, as announced by Bescom.
On August 22, a 21-year-old student sustained burns when a live electric wire fell on her, triggered by an optical fibre cable getting entangled with a passing water tanker.
Similarly, on August 21, a 23-year-old MNC employee named Kevin Varghese suffered injuries after an electric pole collapsed on him due to an entangled cable in Devarabisanahalli near Bellandur.
Numerous instances have prompted citizens to express concerns about the dangling cables from electric poles, posing a threat to pedestrians.
The removal of these unlawfully placed internet cables is anticipated to impact a significant portion of individuals engaged in remote work and companies operating within the city.
The ORR Companies Association, representing businesses located between Central Silk Board and KR Puram, posted a request on X for enhanced coordination among internet providers to avert potential internet disruptions.
