On the occasion of International Dog Day, News Trail asked a few nongovernmental organisations in Bengaluru about their aims and initiatives.
These NGOs are also open to adoption of dogs in Bengaluru and in other cities, which they say is not restricted to just that one day in a year.
Animal Warriors Conversation Society
Founded in 2019, the Animal Warriors Conservation Society (AWS), led by President Pradeep, valiantly rescues distressed animals like dogs stuck in containers or pits, and even birds trapped in Monza.
Their dedicated team extends their reach beyond Hyderabad, covering up to five kilometres for rescues. Commemorating International Dog Day, they're holding a contest for heartwar ming rescued pet stories.
Animal Rights Fund (ARF)
A trustee from ARF revealed that their organization is dedicated to helping animals during times of emergency, especially when dogs are in trouble.
Girish, a spokesperson, suggests that they plan to provide essential aid in situations like when distressed dogs need assistance. Girish further mentions that one of their initiatives involves offering free vaccinations to stray dogs.
They aim to vaccinate around 15 to 20 stray dogs every week.
Pawasana-Paint: Yoga for a cause
Last year, a unique initiative started in India with a simple goal to raise awareness about dogs in India.
Annanya Nautiyal & Anwar Khan, the founders of Pawasana say that they are not only activists but also rescuers.
The main focus is on finding suitable homes and spreading awareness about the over six crore street dogs in India besides aiming for better coexistence and cultural harmony.
A new initiative for puppies' mental stimulation through interaction with humans has been launched, providing them with love and attention. Another program offers painting workshops as a therapeutic and judgement-free space, inspired by the concept of "paint for a cause."
‘’We hold yoga sessions in Rajajinagar and Bloom Studios, engage in car and cafe painting, and our upcoming event on September 17th at Oysters is the next highlight in Bengaluru. Our efforts contribute to animal welfare with over 20 successful adoptions promoted through social media. We operate across Kolkata, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Pune,’’ say the founders.
Compassion Unlimited Plus Action (Cupa)
Every International Dog Day, Cupa aims to engage individuals to participate in dog welfare activities by:
- Promoting the sterilisation and vaccination of community dogs to control their population and curb diseases.
- Encouraging adoption from shelters, reducing abandonment and neglect cases.
- Creating awareness about responsible pet ownership, emphasising spaying/ neutering, providing care, and training.
