BMRCL to run additional trains on Purple Line from Sept 1

Bengaluru: The Bangalore Metro Rail Cor poration Limited (BMRCL) has decided to operate additional trains from September 1 on Namma Metro Purple Line during morning peak hours for the convenience of commuters.

The additional trains will be operational from Monday to Friday between Nadaprabhu Kempe gowda Station (Majestic) and Mahatma Gandhi Road Metro Station.

“BMRCL will be operating additional trips on weekdays (Monday to Friday) with effect from September 1. Passengers intending to travel beyond Mahatma Gandhi Road towards Baiyappanahalli may kindly alight at Mahatma Gandhi Road metro station and board the subsequent train,” the BMRCL press release issued on Wednesday, read.

According to media reports, Namma Metro saw an increase of 16 per cent in ridership in July compared to January. There was a steady increase in metro ridership from April, with 54 trains carrying over 6.2 lakh passengers daily.

The daily ridership is likely to reach 7.5 lakh once the 2.1-km stretch between Byyappanahalli and KR Puram and 1.9-km stretch of Challaghatta and Kengeri become operational.
