Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Police have unveiled a new strategy aimed at raising awareness and deterring young individuals from falling into the clutches of illicit drug addiction.

Their plan involves the appointment of Student Marshals across all areas within the city. Bengaluru has been witnessing a troubling surge in drug addiction cases, with many young people getting ensnared in this dangerous web.

Cases filed under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been on the rise, prompting the police to take proactive measures, including conducting awareness sessions in schools to combat drug abuse.

As part of their antidrug campaign, the police have decided to designate approximately 50 students from each college as Marshals. These student Marshals will act as representatives within their schools and colleges.

If they encounter any drug-related activities within or around their educational institutions, their role will be to promptly inform the local police station.

Additionally, they will also educate their peers about the detrimental consequences of drug abuse. Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda expressed his belief that these Marshals will play a crucial role in curbing the drug network operating within the city.

This initiative reflects the police department's commitment to addressing the growing issue of drug addiction among young people and dismantling the drug trade in the city.
