KSRTC plans to streamline travel experience with UPI-based payments

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In order to make ticket-buying a hassle-free experience, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is eyeing on implementing UPI-based payments for the passengers.

After the rise in digital payment users, people in the state have been demanding that the bus corporations introduce UPI-based payment options to improve the travel experience.

While the KSRTC had earlier said to have been working on implementing the service, it was not done because of poor internet connectivity and other technical requirements. However the North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) has now initiated a pilot program for UPI-based payments to simplify ticket purchases.

Starting from September 3, passengers can easily acquire bus tickets by scanning a UPI code, provided they possess an online payment application on their mobile devices, sources from NWKRTC said.

This technological leap addresses concerns about conductors failing to provide tickets to passengers, benefiting both travellers and conductors by saving time and ensuring a seamless travel experience, they added.

It is said that after evaluating different possibilities, this payment method may be extended to all KSRTC buses.

KSRTC Managing Director Anbu Kumar mentioned that they are studying options and will draw lessons from NWKRTC's pilot program before deciding on the implementation of UPI payments with KSRTC.
