Bengaluru: The introduction of electric buses 18 months ago has proven to be a resounding success in the city.

The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) now operates a fleet of 390 electric buses, serving an impressive average of 300,000 passengers daily.

These eco-friendly vehicles have gained favour among commuters, offering innovation, comfort, and sustainability.

Covering a combined daily distance of 80,000 kilometres, these electric buses generate a revenue per kilometre (EPKM) that surpasses traditional buses by Rs. 5.

Supported by funding from the Bangalore Smart City scheme, the BMTC initially launched 90 electric buses in December 2021 and added 300 more since August 2022.

Operating along 18 strategic routes connected to metro stations, the success of Bengaluru's electric buses highlights the growing importance of sustainable transportation in urban areas.

As these buses continue to win hearts and contribute to a greener city, BMTC remains committed to expanding its electric fleet and enhancing public transportation services.
