
Kolar cops fire 9 rounds to arrest accused
Kolar, NT Bureau: In a bizarre incident the police had to open fire on a murder accused at Nambihalli village in Srinivasapur taluk on Tuesday, while six police personnel including a subinspector were injured in the attack by the accused.
The drama unfolded on Tuesday afternoon when Nagesh, a mutton trader arrived near the shop of his ex-wife Radhamma at Nambihalli village and attacked her with a machete causing grievous injuries.
Radhama instantly died and her father Muniyappa who tried to save his daughter too sustained grievous injuries. Nagesh also attacked two other relatives of Radhamma, said M Narayan, SP, Kolar According to M Narayan, the police had to fire in air five rounds to disperse the mob which was keen on killing the accused Nagesh.
After the incident Nagesh reportedly hid in a hotel and threatened the people gathered that he would explode the gas cylinder kept in the hotel.
One villager brought two gas cylinders in a bid to explode the same to kill the accused Nagesh, however police prevented this. In the meantime another villager poured diesel on the building where Nagesh was hiding and tried to set it on fire but police prevented the same.
Later the police burst tear gas cylinders and also fired rubber bullets to disperse the mob and as the mob did not disperse, the police opened five rounds of fire to disperse them.
A police team led by Police Sub Inspector Somashekar then forcibly entered the room where Nagesh was hiding and the accused attacked them inflicting injuries on six police personnel.
At this juncture the police fired nine rounds on his legs and hand and arrested him.
