Hoysala Temples secure UNESCO World Heritage status

Bengaluru: Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah have expressed their delight at the inclusion of the renowned Hoysala-era temples of the state on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) World Heritage Sites list.

Emphasizing their commitment to providing world-class infrastructure and security, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah shared his joy on social media, stating, "It is a matter of great pride and joy. Our government is dedicated to enhancing the infrastructure and safety standards for tourists visiting our state's iconic destinations. Karnataka is home to a treasure trove of historical sites and sacred shrines."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also celebrated this achievement, acknowledging the exceptional sculptural skills displayed in the magnificent and sacred Hoysala temple complexes.

He noted, "The inclusion of the Hoysala temples in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list pays tribute to India's rich cultural heritage and the exceptional sculptural talents of our ancestors.

This accolade adds to the existing UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Karnataka, which include the monuments of Hampi, Pattadakal-BadamiAihole, Bidar-BijapurGulbarga, Srirangapatna, Belur, and Halebidu.

India had submitted a nomination for the historic temples of Belur, Halebidu, and Somanathapura in Karnataka to the UNESCO World Heritage List for the year 2022-23.

India's UNESCO representative, Vishal Sharma, proudly announced the successful inclusion of these temples in the prestigious list.
