Stop fearing the cyber criminals: Bengaluru top cop B Dayananda
NT correspondent
Bengaluru: In his latest 'Cyber tip,' the City Police Commissioner B Dayananda debunked the common myths associated with cyber criminals, who are often thought to be geniuses by the people.
"When they hear about cyber criminals, people generally have a perception that these crooks must be master minds or tech experts. However this is far from the truth," the city top cop said.
Explaining the modus operandi of the cyber criminals, Dayananda said that most of the cyber fraudsters are neither technically skilled nor well educated, but they are hired and lured into an illegitimate business with a promise of commission.
"The criminals follow a certain trick to steal money from the gullible victims. For this, all they need is a couple of devices including mobile phones, an internet connection and bank account details of their victims. They prey upon victims after luring them into a trap," said Dayananda.
As per the police records, most of the fraudsters arrested so far are either natives of towns or villages.
According to the statistics, the prominent hotspots from where these scams are being operated are identified as Bharatpur in Rajasthan with 18% of cyber crime records making it the biggest hub, Mathura in Uttar Pradesh reported 12% of scams while 10% are reported from Jamtara in Jharkhand.
"The only way to avoid getting trapped in cyber frauds is to stay alert" the police commissioner added.
