No permission to open shops on footpaths, parks and playgrounds: BBMP Chief

Bengaluru: The city's civic body, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to dump a proposal on opening shops in parks, playgrounds and on footpaths.

It is often observed and ignored that the encroachment of footpaths, playgrounds and parks is done for trade, business, and commercial activities.

This encroachment is not only a problem for pedestrians, but also for people who are coming for walks. Therefore, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath on Friday suggested not to issue permission to open shops in parks and playgrounds.

The BBMP chief has instructed the Joint Commissioners of the eight zones of Bengaluru under BBMP limits not to allow such commercial activities. There is already rainwater logging, dumping of waste and other problems being caused due to encroachments.

For this, the Palike has taken steps to preserve its properties like parks and playgrounds. Now, the decision by BBMP seems to have created dissatisfaction among traders and vendors.
