Mahisha Dasara celebration sparks controversy amidst opposition & preparations

Bengaluru: Despite opposition from various quarters, the Mahisha Dasara Celebration Committee and the University of Mysore Research Scholars Association are gearing up for the Mahisha Dasara celebration on October 13.
The committee has already initiated preparations and begun distributing invitations for the event. Notably, the invitations refer to Chamundi Hills as Mahisha Hills, as reported by the media.
Organisers have outlined a program that includes a bike rally to Chamundi Hills on October 13 for prayers at the Mahisha statue. Cultural events and vibrant tablo processions will be integral parts of the Mahisha Dasara Celebrations.
The inauguration of the event is scheduled to be carried out by former minister and social activist BT Lalitha Naik, as indicated in the invitation. A substantial turnout is anticipated at Town Hall Mysuru for the celebration.
While Mahisha Dasara celebrations have faced opposition from some BJP members and right-wing groups, the organisers assert that they do not require permission to observe this festival.
They emphasise that all religious celebrations are protected under the Constitution and have taken necessary steps by reaching out to the District Administration, City Police Commissioner, and Municipality for security considerations.
Purushottam, the president of the Mahisha Dasara Celebration Committee, conveyed this stance. Social Welfare Minister HC Mahadevappa has previously stated that the government will not oppose the Mahisha Dasara Celebrations.
In contrast, BJP MP Pratap Simha has called for the Chamundi Chalo programme on October 13 to counter the Mahisha Dasara festivities.
