B'luru police to deny nod for Ganesha processions?

Bengaluru: In a move aimed at curbing unrest, the Bengaluru police is likely to issue an order prohibiting Ganesha idol processions and DJ dances during the ongoing festivities in the city in future.

This decision comes after a series of incidents, including murder and riots that have marred the Ganesha festival celebrations across the state.

On Sunday, a courier delivery executive was stabbed to death by a group of youth after they had a fight over a DJ dance during the Ganesh idol immersion procession in Adugodi in Bengaluru.

According to the city police, around 450 Ganapati idols have been installed across the city and more than 200 people have written a letter asking for permission to carry out a procession in the coming days.

The police officials across all the jurisdictions have been directed to deny permission for Ganesha processions. Furthermore, it is also said that the police inspector of the respective police station will be held responsible if any commotion or procession occurs despite the prohibition.

While the decision aims to ensure public safety and prevent further violence, it could also stir discontent among the city’s residents, who may view it as an infringement on their religious rights.
