NT Correspondent
Dharwad: A man from Dharwad is reportedly stranded in Israel due to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. Sumesh, an Assistant Professor at the Agricultural University, is stuck in Jerusalem, where he resides in a lodge.
Sources said he had travelled to Israel for meteorology training at the Hebrew University, with the training starting on August 7 and originally scheduled to continue until October 22.
Unfortunately, the training program has also been cancelled. Sumesh has enough food for one week and was initially planning to return to India on October 22, following the completion of his training until October 27.
The Vice-Chancellor of the Agricultural University is in contact with Sumesh to provide assistance. Another individual stranded in Israel is Shanti Almeida, a woman from Malur in Kolar district.
She resides in Robs, Israel, and has sought refuge in a bunker following an emergency siren issued by the Israeli government. While there is no immediate danger in her location, the sounds of bombs and rockets are audible.
Shanti Almeida, who has been working as a home nurse in Israel for a decade, has stated that she has adequate supply of food and water and remains in contact with the Indian Embassy. Her husband, Greshan Almeida, confirmed her safety.
The Indian Embassy has initiated efforts to safeguard Indian citizens in the region. More than 40 individuals from Bhatkal, who are settled in Israel, have been rescued, and their identities have been verified.
These individuals are maintaining communication with their families during this challenging time.
