Bengaluru: As the festival fever of Dasara grips the city, people find a sharp spike in the cost of flowers, fruits, and other festive essentials, with no option but to purchase at high prices.
A combination of factors, including excessive demand and erratic rainfall, has played a pivotal role in this unprecedented price hike in items of over 150 per cent of their previous rates.
When News Trail visited KR Market, the onceaffordable rose, which cost around Rs 60 per kilogram days before, now cost Rs 150 per kilogram.
Likewise, the jasmine, priced at reasonable Rs 200 just days ago, now demands a princely sum of Rs 400, Kanakambara is touching Rs 600. Not only flowers, the fruits, coconuts, and sweets that form the cornerstone of festivities are also affected.
A few vendors revealed that the price hike is anticipated due to high demand, spurred on by the festive spirit, with rains also playing a major part in price hike.
The prices of these festive necessaries will further increase in a few days, opined a few vendors.
