Bengaluru: On Sunday, two fatal accidents involving Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses, resulted in the loss of two lives.
Law enforcement registered FIRs and apprehended both bus drivers. These incidents mark the fifth such occurrence this month. In the first incident, a 45-year-old man was fatally struck by a BMTC bus in Govindaraja Nagar as he was returning to his residence in Annapoor neshwari Nagar.
Sustaining severe head injuries, he succumbed to them at the scene. The victim, Kumar, had stepped out of his home to buy flowers for his wife's baby shower, as she is expecting their second child.
Following a post-mortem examination at Victoria Hospital, the body was released to the family. Vijayanagar Police have since registered a case and detained the bus driver.
In the second tragedy, a 20-year-old garment factory worker, Veena, met with a fatal accident when she was struck by a BMTC bus near Bannerghatta Main Road while crossing the BDA 80 feet road.
Veena suffered fatal head injuries. Originally from Shivamogga, she had recently relocated to Bengaluru and was residing in a rented house in Janata Colony near Hulimavu.
The Hulimavu Police registered an FIR against the bus driver, named Swamy, for death caused by negligence and reckless driving.
The reality emerges as the fifth fatality this month alone, as BMTC buses have been involved in a string of accidents leading to tragic consequences. 15 days ago, a college student lost his life after being hit by a BMTC bus in Yeshwanthpur.
On October 9, a 3-year-old boy was fatally injured in a collision with a BMTC bus in the Hulimavu Police Station Limits.
