Belagavi: The North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) has suspended its bus services to Maharashtra after one of its buses was set on fire by protestors during the ongoing agitation for Maratha reservation.

Mahadev Munji, the District Controller of NWKRTC, Chikodi division, explained, "We have suspended 150 trips on the Kolhapur route and 210 trips on the Miraj route following the directions of the District Superintendent of Police."

Pro-Maratha quota protesters blocked the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway in Pune city, Maharashtra, and set tires on fire to press their demand for reservation.

Members of the Maratha community have been staging protests in different parts of the state, seeking reservation in government jobs and education under the Other Backward Classes category.

A group of protesters blocked the road at Navale bridge on the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway, shouted slogans, and set seven to eight tires on fire, as reported by an official from the Sinhgad Road Police station.
