Will have separate secretariat for NRIs to invest in the state: DCM

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: On the occasion of Karnataka Rajyotsava, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar vowed that the State government would fulfill its promise and set up a separate secretariat for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) who want to invest in Karnataka.

The Congress had made the promise to do the same in their manifesto for the Assembly elections that took place in May. Similar secretariats have been set up by Kerala and the Union government.

“We will soon set up a secretariat to meet the needs of the Non-Resident Indians. A number of them want to invest in Karnataka. They want their homeland to do well,” Shivakumar said.

He pointed out that a vice-chairman had been appointed for the body, adding that the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) and Information Technology and Bio-Technology Priyank Kharge (IT-BT) had submitted a draft note on the setting up of the separate Secretariat.

Shivakumar made the comments during the Karnataka Sambhrama celebrations, the 50th anniversary of the renaming of the state from Msyore to Karnataka by then Chief Minister Devaraj Urs.
