Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths said that they have completed the probe into the cash-for-ticket scam involving pro-Hindu activist Chaitra Kundapuraand six others.
Further they revealed that the CCB has decided to process the filing of a charge sheet related to the case to the court.
Following the arrest of the accused persons, the CCB, in the last 50 days, have gathered various pieces of evidence in the case filed by a businessman Govind Babu Pujari who was allegedly conned of Rs 5 crore over a false promise of BJP ticket from Byndoor of Udupi district.
According to sources, after taking statements from 68 witnesses and collecting digital evidence like audio and video recordings, the CCB Police have concluded the probe in which Chaitra and six others reportedly cheated Govind Babu.
The CCB Police are expected to file a chargesheet in the case against seven people including Chaitra, Shrikanth, Gagan Kadur, Halashree seer of Vijayanagara Mutt, Dhanaraj and Channa Naik, to the court next week.
The police claimed to have recovered Rs 4.11 crore from the accused persons. The complainant Govind Babu had accused Chaitra and the gang of taking Rs 5 crore in installments and made him believe that they had contacts with BJP leaders and assured him a BJP ticket.
After taking money, the accused reportedly said that a senior RSS leader named Vishwanath, who had taken money from him, died and they can’t repay.
After several rounds of meetings to return the money failed, Govind Babu filed a complaint at Bandepalya Police Station in Bengaluru and the case was later handed over to the CCB.
Chaitra had earlier accused the involvement of several ‘bigwigs’ in the case while she was in the CCB custody.
