
Firecracker sale may dip 50% this Deepavali in Mysuru
Mysuru, NT Bureau: The sale of fire crackers is likely to dip by 40 to 50 per cent this Deepavali in the city with the state government restricting the bursting of crackers between 8 pm and 10 pm from Friday till Tuesday.
Mysuru City Corporation has permitted only 115 firecrackers traders to set up their temporary stalls for five days from Friday till Tuesday at 16 different locations in the city.
"Crackers sales shop which used to be open eight days before the Deepavali festival all these years,will be open only for five days due to stringent norms imposed by the district administration", said Mysuru district green crackers sales distributors association treasurer M Sureshgowda.
Anticipating poor business , several cracker sellers are purchasing lesser stocks from Sivakasi which may lead to a spike in prices of crackers in the city.
Meanwhile, the district administration has issued an order directing all officials to ensure that the bursting of green crackers takes place only for two hours 8 pm to 10 pm for all the three days during the festival.
Directions have been given to all firecrackers sellers to sell only green crackers. Buyers can verify the green cracker by scanning the QR code which is printed on fire cracker boxes by manufacturers.
Bursting crackers banned in silent zones
City Police commissioner Ramesh Banoth on Friday banned bursting of crackers in a radius of 100 meters of silent zones including Mysuru Zoo with effect from Friday (November 11, 6 am) till Tuesday( November 14, midnight in the city.
The Commissioner declared Mysuru zoo, Kukkarahalli lake area, Karanji lake area, Lingambudhi lake area, parks, hospitals, nursing homes, schools and colleges, courts and places of worship as silent zones and accordingly restricted the bursting of crackers within 100 meters’ radius of these spots during Deepavali.
