Bengaluru private schools grapple with enhanced security measures mandated by police

Bengaluru: Private schools in Bengaluru are currently confronting the implementation of enhanced security measures in response to notifications from the local police department.

Citing the Karnataka Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act of 2017, the police have issued directives for the installation of door frame metal detectors, handheld detectors, and CCTV cameras with specific resolutions across the premises of private schools in the city.

A few schools in the Bengaluru South education district recently received these notifications, and it is anticipated that similar instructions will soon be distributed to educational institutions citywide.

These notifications mandate the installation of both handheld and door frame metal detectors, alongside surveillance cameras capable of covering areas up to 50 yards.

Each school is required to designate an employee from an outsourcing agency with expertise in electronic equipment operation, such as CCTVs.

The financial responsibility for these security measures rests with the school administration.
